Tableau Creation - Big Brothers (Film Narrative 1)

Our first Tableau creation tells the story of three brothers who are startled by the arrival of an abusive parent. We wrote this idea with off-screen sound in mind as we realized that an essential aspect of the narrative could be conveyed through alarming sounds such as smashing and slamming coming from the off-screen space. On set we spent some time setting up the shot as we knew that we wanted a certain level of depth in the shot. We therefore chose the place the brothers in the midground and the door in the background. Furthermore, to show the older brother's authority he enters from the foreground.

Crit Feedback

The feedback for our tableau was relatively positive however there were definitely some aspects to improve. Firstly, although the way we used sound was complimented, the importance of recording sound as a part of the project rather than downloading sound was discussed which we will definitely do in future projects. Another potential improvement for us to consider was the Mise en Scene as the poster in the background could be seen as distracting as it sits almost centrally and above the intended subjects therefore, we will ensure to look out for set production and how it can impact audience attention for future projects.
